ITINERARY:

Day 1 (3rd August 2019)

We will meet at Southgate Spar, PMB at 5:30am to leave by 6:00am. Please do not be late. We will pick up the Highway people at Anderson's Garage in Richmond at 6:30am.

We travel via the R56 , N2, R349 to Morgan's Bay. We will be staying at Double Mouth Campsite just outside Morgan's Bay. We will stop en route for breakfast, lunch, and fuel.

Day 2 (4th August 2019)

We have breakfast and pack up camp to leave by 9am. We proceed to the Great Kei River at Kei Mouth and cross the Kei River by ferry. The 2018 fee was R90 per vehicle, so suggest to have a bit more cash on hand. We then proceed along the 'unofficial' Wild Coast 4x4 Eco Route to Trennery's for the night. Along the way we'll look for the Gxara Falls and Nongqawuse Prophetess Of Doom. After lunch at Trennery's we'll explore the coast in search of the wreck of the Jacaranda and stop off at the Gates.

Day 3 (5th August 2019)

Once again we have to pack up and leave by 9am. Today we again travel on the 'unofficial' Wild Coast 4x4 Eco Route to Dwesa Nature Reserve. We will cross the swamps enroute to the Cebe Community Camp (we were going stay here, but it is either closed or destroyed or both).

Day 4 (6th August 2019)

We stay at Dwesa for two nights, so today is a day of leisure. We will most likely do a guided tour of the reserve, the whale skeleton and the wreck of the O'Bell.

Day 5 (7th August 2019)

Back on the road again by 9am and we travel towards our next stop which is Hole in the Wall. Enroute we drive the Mbashe River Pass as well as tackling some tricky tracks. We also visit Mbolompo Point. We stay at White Clay Campsite for the next two nights.

Day 6 (8th August 2019)

We stay at White Clay for two nights, giving us a chance to see the 'Hole!' and other sights nearby including the Mapuzi Caves!

Day 7 (9th August 2019)

Pack up time again, as we head for Port St John's. Along the way we will look for the wreck of the Astor and other interesting places. The Wild Coast 4x4 Eco trail ends at Port St John's. Once we get to Port St John's we'll travel up to the airstrip for great views of the area.

Day 8 (10th August 2019)

We're off to Mboyti today. Some tar driving. We'll explore the area between Port St John's and the Mkhambathi Nature Reserve, before setting up camp at Mboyti.

Day 9 (11th August 2019)

Sadly our trip is nearing it's end. We leave for home.

TWO WAY RADIOS (required, VHF only):

Communication between participating vehicles on any 4×4 excursion is important for many reasons. It benefits the safety of drivers, passengers and vehicles while on a 4×4 trail, where drivers can communicate with one another regarding their location and situation, not to mention the interesting information that is shared with participants. The fun part is the many interesting stories that are shared among participants. We use VHF radios only and operate on ORRA Channels 1 - 6
