Battlefields History Trip
Venue: Kwa Rie - Dundee
Join us in August as we head out for a History Trip. The trip will be led by a registered Battlefields Region Guide who will take us into the heart of history and is centered around the Anglo Zulu Wars.
Dates: Friday 7th - Monday 10th August 2015 (Monday is a Public Holiday)
Place: Dundee and surrounds
Accomodation: Kwa Rie (Dundee)
The idea behind this trip is head up to Kwa Rie in Dundee on Thursday the 6th in convoy. Come Friday and Saturday our guide will travel with us in the lead vehicle. Sunday we break camp and make our way home. Kwa Rie will be the location where will stay during this trip.
The following is a proposed itinerary:
Sat 8th: one day visit to Hlobane and Kambula battlefields . There is an element of fairly tough cross country work to reach Hlobane top, short but interesting nevertheless.
Sun 9th: one day trip, mainly on gravel roads, with a short trip on a track, through the remarkable scenery in our area, seen by only a few locals. Lunch time stop at Msinga top, for the view of the confluence of the Tugela and Buffalo Rivers, an awesome place.
Accomodation and Rates:
Camping : R85.00 per person
Self-catering chalets : Sharing : R280.00 per person per night
Not sharing : R350.00 per person per night
Other costs: Guide - R200.00 per vehicle
Note: If you have committed to the Comrades Marshalling and have completed it your cost for the guide will be covered by the Club.
Communication: If you do not have a radio and would like to hire one, please let us know in advance so that we can organise one for you. Rates for rental of portable units will be made available shortly.
If you would like to take part in this event please let us know by Registering above. A 50% deposit will be required by end of July to secure your accomodation. As it stands there is a limit on 18 vehicles.
