Namakwa Eco Trail, Richtersveld, Namaqua National Park, Caracal Eco Trail, Flowers

13 to 28 August 2016

This Trip is LIMITED to six (6) Vehicles, 12 People, and NO large off-road caravans

Day 1 – PMB to Dronfield Lodge (Kimberley)

We meet at the Rotunda in Hilton to begin our journey. We will travel via the N3, N5, N1, and N8 to Kimberly for our first overnight stop. (Chalets)

Day 2 – Dronfield Lodge (Kimberley) to Klein Pella Camp via Pella (Start of the Namakwa Eco Trail).

The next morning we travel via Upington and Poffadder to Pella. At Pella we collect our permits for the Namakwa Eco Trail. We will also explore the famous Roman Catholic Church before heading off to our first overnight stop along the trail. On the way we will head through Charlie’s Pass. (Camping, Electricity, Ablutions)

Day 3 – Klein Pella Camp to Groot Melkboom Camp (Camping, No ablutions, No Electricity)

Today we visit Karsten’ Farm, the largest Date Plantation in the Southern Hemisphere. We then head on to Groot Melkboom, which is in fact a giant Namaqua fig tree, where we will camp tonight.

Day 4 – Great Melkboom Camp to Kamgab (Camping, No ablutions, No Electricity)

From Groot Melkboom we head off west again via Goodhouse to our next campsite at Kamgab

Day 5 – Kamgab to Richtersberg Camp (Richtersveld Transfrontier Park) (Camping, Cold Water showers & Flush Toilets, No Electricity)

This morning we say good bye to the Namakwa Eco Trail as we join the N7 to Steinkopf and on up to Sendelingsdrift and the Richtersveld Park. We check in and then proceed to our campsite for four (4) nights at Richtersberg.

Day 6 - Richtersveld (Camping, Cold Water showers & Flush Toilets, No Electricity)

We will plan trips to various areas of the park each day

Day 7 – Richtersveld (Camping, Cold Water showers & Flush Toilets, No Electricity)

Day 8 – Richtersveld (Camping, Cold Water showers & Flush Toilets, No Electricity)

We will plan trips to various areas of the park each day

Day 9 – Richtersberg to Taaiboskraal Bush Camp (Camping, Single Toilet & Shower, No Electricity)

Our last day in the Richtersveld. We leave via the southern gate and head back to Steinhopf and on south to Springbok on the N7. Shortly after Springbok we turn off left onto a dirt road to our camp for the night at Taaiboskraal Campsite

Day 10 – Taaiboskraal Bush Camp to Bamboeskamp (Namaqua National Park) (via the Caracal Eco Trail) (Flowers) (Camping, Long drop, No Electricity)

Today is going to be a long, but great day. After leaving our campsite we cross over the Kammieshoogte pass and on to the Namaqua National Park at Skilpad. Here we book in and start the Caracal Eco trail through the park and on our campsite for the next two nights at Bamboeskamp. This campsite is right on the beach. On the way we will make a detour to Hondeklip Bay, time permitting. 

Day 11 – Bamboeskamp (Camping, Long drop, No Electricity)

Rest day – Those that want can drive or walk around the park.

Day 12 – Bamboeskamp to Papkuilsfontein (Flowers) (Camping, Single Toilet, Shower, No Electricity)

Today we leave the Namaqua National Park via the southern exit at Groen River and on to Garies. Back on the N7 we do not stay on it for long before once again taking the dirt roads, heading for Nieuwoudtville and then our campsite for the next two days at Papkuilsfontein. 

Day 13 – Papkuilsfontein (Flowers) (Camping, Single Toilet, Shower, No Electricity)

Rest day – explore the area around Nieuwoudtville and Papkuilsfontein.

Day 14 – Papkuilsfontein to Jagersberg (via Meerkat Radio Telescope Site)

Sadly it’s time to head home. We travel via the Meerkat Radio telescope site and on to Jagersberg Camp in the middle of the Karoo (Camping, Single Toilet, Shower, No Electricity)

Day 15 – Jagersberg to River Destiny Lodge (Colesberg)

To break the trip, we will stop over at River Destiny Lodge (Colesberg) (Chalets)

Day 16 – River Destiny Lodge to PMB – HOME!

This is it. The last leg, back home! I hope you have all enjoyed the trip!

 

Notes:

Limited to Six (6) vehicles and Twelve (12) People.

This is a CAMPING ONLY trip. No large off road caravans as some camp sites are small.

There is NO Electricity on this trip!

The terrain varies from VERY soft sand to Hard/Sharp rocks.

You will need to bring/carry everything with you, water, power, fuel, food, etc.

Fuel & Supplies available on days 1, 2, 5, 9,10, 12, 13, 14, 15, & 16

A NON Refundable deposit paid before the 29 February 2016 secures you your place, if you are one of the FIRST FIVE (5) vehicles to book.

Daily Conservation Fees are payable at the Richtersveld and Namaqua National Park (R398pp). I would suggest that you buy a ‘Couple’ Wild Card as it will cost about the same.
